The BBC has recently highlighted that reports from The Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) has shown that the smallest number of homeowners are choosing to move house in London since 1991 – dropping to its lowest level in 25 years last year.
London, England -- (ReleaseWire) -- 03/17/2017 -- CML has stated that home-movers in London took out only 32,400 loans in 2016, which is 10% less than those in 2015 and the lowest number since the recession of 1991. Not only this, but the number of first-time buyers requiring loans also saw a 5% drop when compared to the previous year.
It is thought that the drop in figures could be due to persisting supply issues, meaning that the forecast for 2017 is also uncertain. However some are in disagreement when it comes to the suggestion that supply is an issue because there are currently tens of thousands of homes for sale in London. Instead others believe that that it is all down to affordability, believing that it is the soaring costs deterring people from moving.
A spokesperson from a reputable and recommended man and van company, Man and Van, was incredibly keen to comment saying, "Like many others we are not 100% certain why this huge drop has occurred, however we do believe that the rising prices must have something to do with it. Although house prices in London can often be expensive, here at Man and Van we pride ourselves on constantly offering and providing reliable and affordable man and van and removal services.
