Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/16/2019 -- Gary Barbera continues to give back to his community by supporting the Betty Ann Shema-Morris Scholarship Fund at Temple University on its 21st Annual Campus Recreation. This scholarship will help students who participate in Temple University's campus recreation.
The primary goal of the Campus Recreation Department is to provide the university community with quality-oriented leisure time opportunities in a safe environment. These sport-related activities may take many forms, such as intramurals, sports clubs, informal recreation, special events, aquatics, group fitness, adapted recreation or student staff development.
In 1972, Mrs. Shema-Morris came to Temple's Main Campus as the assistant director of financial aid. One year later, she married John F. Morris, Ed. D., Temple's director of student financial services. A woman with rosy cheeks and, as Herman said, "A smile that lit up the room." She moved on after 10 years to Temple's Ambler Campus and then Tyler School of Art. Since 1992, Mrs. Shema-Morris has served as Tyler's Assistant Director of Financial Aid.
"Giving back to the students at Temple University is something that the Barbera Family is extremely proud of," explained Barbera. "We are thrilled to help support these students throughout their college career and excited to see where they will go after college."
Barbera saw this opportunity as a great way to help the students in his community and is a perfect fit with his "Barbera Cares" program. His program is focused on the local community and the wants and needs of the people who live in it. According to Barbera, he "found a quote from Teddy Roosevelt that sums it all up." The quote is, "Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care."
